The Vamoose Clear Ice Device works for the same reason that lakes in cold, northern climates “turnover” in the autumn.

If you live in an area with a cold climate and freshwater lakes, you are probably familiar with the concept of “turnover”. In the summer, the water near the surface of the lake gets warm, but if you are a swimmer, you know that the temps just a few feet below the surface are considerably colder. The warm water stays on top because it is less dense than cold water. But, in the autumn as air temperatures fall, the surface temperature of a freshwater lake drops, causing the colder, more dense surface water to sink – effectively flipping the entire water column.

This same thing happens with Vamoose. When you put the device in the freezer, colder water continually circulates downward until it freezes. This drives microscopic particulates down and out, resulting in crystal-clear ice.
