It is a matter of preference. Copper will tarnish over time when exposed to oxygen and humid air. Many owners of the Meltdown prefer the authentic tarnished look with age. When you want to restore the shine to new, simply and easily follow the Meltdown cleaning instructions.
The Meltdown works best when it is at room temperature. When making consecutive ice balls, simply run the HoverCover top section under warm water for 15-20 seconds or until warm. You are now ready to make your next Meltdown ice ball.
Yes, you can pre-make and freeze ice balls from your Meltdown Ice Ball Press to have ready when needed.
This “locking up” occurs when you leave the Meltdown cover in place after the ice ball has been formed. What is happening is the copper (or aluminum) is melting the cylinder of ice to form the ice ball and getting cold enough to freeze residual water which, in turn, is freezing the Meltdown cover and base together. To avoid this, simply remove the cover as soon as it completes its descent and reaches the drain base.
Each American-made Chubby is custom-made from solid, high-end aluminum during a three-hour process. They are made in limited quantities (not mass-produced like other products), so the quality is impeccable – and will last a lifetime.
Here at Meltdown, we use purified water – but distilled works as well. It’s really a matter of your preference and taste.
Pour purified water into the water fill line and place it in the freezer. When ready to make your ice ball, remove it from the freezer and let it sit for 3-5 minutes before extracting the cylinder. For best results, use the ball within 24 hours of freezing, and use tongs to transfer from the Vamoose to the Meltdown base.
